Lt Col Dr. Julia Akhter Nira (Ret.)

Lt Col (Dr.) Julia Akhter Nira is a highly accomplished Obstetrician, Gynaecologist, and Infertility & Reproductive Medicine Specialist with over 25 years of distinguished service in both military and civilian healthcare. She completed her MBBS from Dhaka Medical College in 1999 and went on to earn multiple postgraduate degrees including DGO, MCPS, FCPS in Obstetrics & Gynaecology, and a second FCPS in Reproductive Endocrinology & Infertility.

She served as an Obstetrician and Gynaecologist for 17 years across various Combined Military Hospitals (CMHs) including Bangladesh Navy, where she handled all obstetric and gynecological cases including normal vaginal deliveries, C-Sections, and major surgical operations such as TAH, VH, PFR, and laparoscopic ovarian cystectomy.

Dr. Julia served as a consultant in the Fertility Center at CMH, Dhaka under the direct guidance of Brig (retd.) RK Sharma and Col (retd.) Pankaj Talwar of Indian Army from 2017 to 2019. During this period, she gained extensive experience in every aspect of fertility care including Outpatient Department, Folliculometry by Transvaginal Sonography, IUI, conventional IVF, ICSI, PESA, and TESA.

She is an expert in minimally invasive gynaecological surgery including Laparoscopy and Hysteroscopy, specially for infertile patients, as well as Transvaginal Ultrasonography for fertility evaluation. Dr. Julia also served as a Gynae Specialist in the UN mission in Central African Republic from 2019 to 2020.

Her distinguished teaching career spans nearly two decades — from Lecturer (Captain) to Associate Professor (Lt Col) and Head of Department at Armed Forces Medical College in both Dhaka and Cumilla. She has authored and co-authored 8 research publications in reputed medical journals covering topics from IVF outcomes to hepatitis B virus effects on semen parameters.

Dr. Julia is a member of prestigious national and international organizations including the American Society for Reproductive Medicine (ASRM), Indian Fertility Society (IFS), and Obstetric & Gyneological Society of Bangladesh (OGSB). Currently, she is serving patients at Meena IVF & Fertility Care Ltd., bringing her vast military-trained precision and expertise to comprehensive fertility care.
